Arran CVS Community Transport

Arran Community and Voluntary Service offer a low-cost door to door transport service for the local community who are unable to access existing transport, or where appropriate transport does not exist. Due to the rural location of many villages on Arran, residents are challenged by infrequent public transport, which affects their ability to leave their home for social interaction and attend medical appointments.

This scheme is not for profit, passengers only pay a modest charge to help cover some of the cost of the volunteer’s fuel.  With a minimum charge of £1, otherwise, paying 50p per mile with a total cost regardless of distance capped at £6 each way. As a member of the Community Transport Association, we follow best practice and have adopted this low-cost model as recommended.

Volunteer drivers are at the heart of what we do, without their help and support this vital service would not be possible. Transport is provided by volunteers who have been PVG checked and referenced.

As our project continues to grow, we are currently seeking drivers in Whiting Bay, Kildonan/Kilmory and Blackwaterfoot areas so, if you could spare a couple of hours a week to help grow our team of volunteer drivers, please do get in touch. With more volunteers we are looking to open the service up to not only medical/dental appointments but helping to reduce loneliness and isolation for Arran residents restricted to their home, to be able to attend social groups like Lunch Clubs, Umbrella Group, Art in Mind, Wellbeing Café to name but a few.

If you would like to register to use community transport or are interested in becoming a volunteer driver, please contact Jeanette MacLeod at Arran CVS on 01770 600611 or email to [email protected].
