Covid-19 Vaccination Update

The first vaccinations have taken place on Arran this week. This involved delivering the Pfizer vaccine to; Care Home residents, Health and Social Care staff and a small number of our most vulnerable patients.

Arran Medical Group is working hard with NHS Ayrshire and Arran to roll out the next phase of the vaccination programme. This will use the AstraZeneca/Oxford vaccine which was approved this week.

Priority will be given to those over 80 years of age, we hope to start these mid to end of January dependent on vaccine delivery. We will be in touch with patients directly, by either phone or letter, to organise appointments. Following our successful Flu sessions, we hope, again, to provide localised clinics for these vaccinations.

As we are still working with limited phone lines and staffing due to social distancing, please can we ask patients to wait for contact from our team.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your continued support and patience during these times.

Thank you to everyone for supporting all the efforts this week in response to the recent COVID cases on Arran and for keeping our island safe.

This is a complex undertaking involving several organisations and a large team both on and off the island. The scale of the support and expertise of those involved is highly reassuring.

Communication and public updates about the overall situation will be co-ordinated by the Public Health team through NHS Ayrshire and Arran. To avoid mixed or confusing messages in a fast changing situation the GP practice will not issue separate updates.

We are working hard to ensure the best care for anyone who needs our help. While some routine appointments have been postponed for the moment the practice remains open.

Please do not delay contacting us if you have health concerns. You will be able to speak to a doctor or nurse that day and face to face appointments can be arranged when needed. The practice number is 01770 600516.
